Athletes from around the world can now register for the 2023 World Police and Fire Games which will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba from July 28 – August 6, 2023.

Police officers, firefighters, correctional officers, paramedics, volunteer firefighters and more eligible first responders will participate in more than 60 Olympic-style sports at more than 40 venues across Winnipeg and Manitoba. The World Police and Fire Games Federation has expanded eligibility to include volunteer firefighters, paramedics, crime scene investigators and other first responders. Previous Games have seen participation numbers from 8,000 – 10,000 athletes.

“We know the Games will be an excellent way to feature our city and open doors for future large-scale events in Winnipeg. Not only will it bring an influx of visitors from around the world to Winnipeg, but it will also remind Winnipeggers why our city is so special and truly the heart of Canada,” said Chad Swayze, Winnipeg Firefighter and Chair of the board.

The World Police and Fire Games is a non-ticketed event, meaning spectators can watch world-class athletes compete free of cost. Athletes pay their way to compete, which offsets the need to charge spectators: a way the Games aim to make events inclusive and barrier-free for all to enjoy.

“We are ready to welcome athletes and their families from all over the world to Winnipeg. Statistically, each athlete brings 1.5 guests, meaning Winnipeg will see a massive tourism influx and an estimated $85 Million financial boost to Winnipeg’s economy. It will be a combination of positive economic impact and excitement in the spirit of sport and competition,” said Mike Edwards, Chief Operating Officer of 2023 WPFG.
